Well, as they say, better late than never. After finishing our spring semester I can gladly relax for the summer.

Greenway drafted........to the MN Vikings!!!

Well after 5 great seasons for the Iowa Hawkeyes Chad Green way was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings. This is great and I already ordered the Chad greenway jersey....and can't wait to see him on the field.

National High Five Day

When I first came to Iowa I met Adam Matheson, and he introduced me to a little tradition he had in high school called High Five Friday. Where you would walk around giving high fives on Fridays. Even though he handed out candy w/ the high fives in high school, it works just as well w/o the candy. It is just a feel good thing.

I don't know the people in this picture, but it is a great high five!

But then to think that today, a Thursday, is National High Five Day just makes me happy. Mostly because I will have another day full of High Fives tomorrow. So give the next person you see a high five!

Down Time

It is that time of year, basketball is done and football is not yet in full swing. Even though spring practice is going I can't wait to get back in Kinnick this fall.

On a whole other topic, Alford is still here which bring mixed emotions. He did a great job this year but then again we have lost two more guys to transfers. Which seems like a trademark of the Alford era.

Anyways it is a lovely 82 degrees out.

Official UI ring vote

I don't know if I ever mentioned this but for a while I have been on the committee that has been trying to design these very rings. So to see something like this is very cool. Not to mention that my favorite one is winning in the vote big time.

So go vote at and hopefully we can make an Official ring that most people like.

So...........Tornado warnings

So one may ask, where do you go when you are in the dorms during a Tornado Warning? The answer in Hillcrest seems to be where ever you please as long as you aren't too close to a window. And as though you did not know there was a Tornado Warning we proceeded to listen to a siren and announcement for nearly a half an hour before most people migrated outside due to being annoyed by the "safety alarm".

So the lesson is play the alarm once then let it go.......Please!?!?!?!?!

On a side note, Grey's Anatomy was fantastic tonight!

I don't know about anyone else but I am stoked to go see this movie. This seems like not only a great action film but a great movie for our time. In a world filled with so much oppression and fear I think this movie brings up some valid points. And makes you look at "terrorism" a little differently....or at least that is what the critics are saying.

So if you want something a bit edgier than Curious George(no offense to Cindy)you should check V for Vendetta out. I know I am!

March madness indeed......... In recent memory I cannot remember a NCAA tournament that had more upsets than this one has to this point. So even though Iowa lost in the first round, you cannot help but look at those who are in the same boat as we were......."upsets" if you will. Here is the impressive list teams who have been eliminated in "upsets" thus far in order of their seeding:

Well the Hawkeyes have officially made the tournament. The Hawkeyes play the Northwestern State Demons of the Southland Conference and many people are already calling this a potential upset but I have a few reasons why we are going to win on Friday:

1)Brunner is showing some signs of his former self before his senior day injury.
2)Haluska is taking better shots, and squaring up to the hoop
3)Thompson provided a spark in the BTT Championship game, why not in the NCAA Tourney too!

And lastly, we are the Iowa Hawkeyes........Come on!

Well we official have 5 days of class remaining until spring break, but for me, once I get the Financial accounting test done tomorrow night it is all down hill to the real highlight of my week...........seeing Ben Folds live n Des Moines on Thursday. I am so excited.....this will be the first time I have ever been able to attend a concert of his. And so I am officially deeming this BEN FOLDS WEEK on my blog.

So everyday will have a new Ben folds piece of media or picture.

Cubs Fans

Today I realized why I love being a MN Twins fan. My roommate is a "diehard" Cubs fan who has spent a majority of the day thus far in a Virtual Waiting Room online for a chance to but single game seats to Cubs home games. So why do I love the Twins so much? Because for $6 I can go to any Twins game I want, not questions asked and enjoy a great baseball game.

So to all you Cubs fans that are waiting for tickets.....enjoy the wait. I on the other hand will pay my $6 and get my dollar dome dogs.

First Midterm

Well, I am taking a break from my non-stop studying of stats for business to write this post. But I got to thinking, why do we make such a big deal out of tests? What do they really prove anyways? And so I decided to take a deep breathe and a break from the books for a little while.

One thing that happened recently that really devastated me was the Iowa loss to the MN Golden Gophers this last weekend. Being from MN, I can assure you I heard about it to no end after that game. However, my parents were at the game and sent be these pictures........kinda fun.

This was genius.....We may not have taken it this year but we will next year!

Making Dinner.......

Last night my friend Adam decided to cook all of us dinner. I have to say that we all we a bit worried and contemplated other food options for after out meal Incase. But it was actually pretty good. He made home made lasagna and breadsticks and then we had pie for desert. And besides the meal taking and hour longer to cook than he thought it would, the night was a success. We even managed to take some more silly pictures!

So when people ask if college kids can cook, the answer is yes, it just takes a heck of a long time to do it!

For the first time in what seems like months, I have a heavy load lifted off my shoulders. Dance Marathon has ended and we raised $686,251.12 for children with cancer and that is more than amazing. Could it really just be over? But is it strange that I find myself already planning for next years Dance Marathon 13? How to make more money, what more I can do to get involved. Because after meeting these amazing families and children you cannot help but to want to do more than you ever thought you would for a stranger. Also, thanks to everyone who stopped by, I didn't see a lot of you because I was in the business room slaving away for that tote board, but it means a lot when people visit, it peps you up.

So congratulations to everyone involved and lets crack $700,000 next year.

Big weekend coming up.....

This weekend is full of excitement. First and foremost Dance Marathon is this weekend, and while I keep bringing it up, it is a very special event for a great cause. However, I hope to keep tabs on the men's bball game during the dance as well.

Secondly, the Superbowl is this Sunday! So after I spend all day sleeping and recovering from the marathon, I can wake up and watch the game. And almost as important as the Superbowl is that Grey's Anatomy is all new again this weekend. I LOVE this show. Watch it and you will love it, I promise.

On a side note, here are some picture of us storming the court at the Indiana game. I know it took a while but I just now found good pictures of the storming. You can actually see the stages of storming the court! I say enjoy it now, because everytime we do it from now on the Administration gets fined $10,000.

Countdown to Dance Marathon

Dance Marathon is coming up this Friday and I could not be more excited to participate in something so great. I raised $520 for children with cancer, not too shabby, and I get to participate in a pretty cool event. I do have to miss the Hawkeyes game against Michigan Saturday, but it is well worth it. Plus, we all know we will crush the Wolverines anyways.

This weekend is sure to be an exciting one. First of all my friends and I have tickets to see The Second City at the Englert tonight, and I am pumped. Last night all of those who went to the "Gold Rush" game at Carver Hawkeye Arena, were not disappointed. We not only bounced back from a crushing defeat at Michigan State, but we beat #11 Indiana handily.

It was a game I will not soon forget. I even made it on sportscenter, which is always fun. Anyways here are a few pictures from the night.

Class.....or lack there of

I know everyone has lived this situation, and no matter how many times it happens it still stinks. Today I get up for my 8:30 am discussion section only to be told the moment we get there that we would be there 20 minutes max, then leave. And getting out early would be great if I didn't have to wake up at 7:55 AM to get there, but I digress.

The first week of classes have finished and the semester is on its way, but so too are the activities I involve myself in. STAT ambassadors starts up tomorrow, and Dance marathon is about 11 days away......I can't wait. And I finally raised all my money, after having cut it a little close.

Hawkeye Basketball

Well this morning I woke up ready to watch another great men's basketball game on ESPN. We were playing Michigan State in East Lansing, and I guess I thought we could put up a fight............but we got crushed. We lost by 30 points and yet I watched every minute of that game. It was almost painful, but we still have a chance to recover here at home on Tuesday against #11 ranked Indiana. Hopefully people will show up and make it the second sell out of the year for the "Gold Rush" game.

I will be there dressed in my gamebibs cheering my heart out. Hope all you will be to!

In my haste to post in my new blog, I forgot to introduce myself. I am a sophomore here at the University of Iowa, and am from Eagan, MN. However, I was born here in Iowa City, so I have always wanted to be a Hawkeye. I am a business/political science major and am also part of the Hawkeye marching band. Well, that is enough about me for now.

A new semester, a new start

Well the new semester has begun and I am already studying; how wrong is that? I have a full plate of classes and activities this semester so I know I will have plenty of updates for you all.

One activity that is quickly approaching is Dance Marathon. I am on the business committee and can't wait to see how much money we can raise for a great cause. On the other hand, I still have $175 of $425 that I still need to raise; I better get on that.

Lastly, once a week or so I am going to chose a song that I really seem to be listening to. This week it is more that I just enjoy listening to Ben Folds......a lot. So here is a Ben Folds video, more specifically, Army. If you have never heard of Ben Folds, I suggest you check him out.
